CLAUDIU VIRBAN MD.
Orthopedics Surgeon
Schedule: Monday and Thursday 09:00 - 12:00 and 13:00 - 17:00.I completed my residency in Orthopedics and Traumatology at the Emergency Clinical Hospital Bucharest (Floreasca) for 5 years, from 2013 to 2018, where I encountered a rich and diverse caseload.
From 2018 to 2024, I practiced at the Coloana Medical Clinic, where I led the Orthopedics and Traumatology department and its associated operating block.
I put all the knowledge and skills I have acquired at the service of my patients to provide them with the best recommendations and treatments, enabling them to return to their favorite activities as quickly as possible.
Why I Chose Medicine
The idea of becoming a doctor sprouted in my mind back in 7th grade when I simply fell in love with Human Anatomy and Physiology. I have always had a passion for the natural sciences, with Mathematics being my favorite subject until then. I chose Medicine over economic studies because I found it much more exciting and challenging, a profession that would never let me get bored. And, I still get to encounter Mathematics frequently in my current profession.
How My Path to Orthopedics Began
I studied Medicine at the "Carol Davila" University of Medicine and Pharmacy in Bucharest, graduating in 2012. Subsequently, I completed a 5-year residency in Orthopedics and Traumatology at the Emergency Clinical Hospital Bucharest between 2013 and 2018, where I gained extensive and diverse clinical experience.
However, my first real encounter with orthopedics occurred around the age of 10 when I suffered a distal radius epiphysis fracture. At that time, this field was completely unknown to me, and I had no thoughts of becoming a doctor. In my fourth year of medical school, I returned to Orthopedics, this time through an internship at the Emergency Clinical Hospital Bucharest. I enjoyed it greatly and was left with a positive impression of the opportunities in Orthopedics, although I remained open to exploring other specialties throughout my academic journey. In the end, I chose Orthopedics.
My Mission and Core Values
As an orthopedic physician, my mission is to restore patients' ability and pleasure in movement so they can fully enjoy life. Life is all about motion!
The primary value guiding any medical professional is to "do no harm" ("primum non nocere") and to assist patients in need. Furthermore, I leverage all my knowledge and skills to provide the most effective treatment and best recommendations to help patients recover as quickly as possible and return to the activities they enjoy.
I give each patient my full attention and enjoy presenting and explaining treatment options with their pros and cons, allowing them to decide on the best course of treatment for themselves. The only exception to this rule is when a patient's life or bodily integrity is at risk, and every second counts, in which case, I act based on my professional training.
I prefer to practice medicine in a modern and gentle manner. Despite being a surgeon, I always opt for a non-invasive or minimally invasive approach before considering surgical intervention, when appropriate. I simply choose the best option for my patients, even if it involves a modern procedure that significantly speeds up the recovery process. Yes, surgery has evolved to be much gentler than we might imagine, or at least, that's how it has developed.
