Rheumatology is the branch of medicine that deals with the diagnosis and treatment of inflammatory, degenerative and autoimmune conditions of the musculoskeletal system, such as joints, muscles, tendons, ligaments and periarticular structures.
Symptoms such as persistent joint pain, morning stiffness, joint swelling, limited movement or chronic muscle pain require specialized rheumatological evaluation, especially if they do not resolve spontaneously or worsen over time.

Rheumatology consultations are intended for patients with acute or chronic conditions, including:
- osteoarthritis and degenerative joint conditions
- rheumatoid arthritis and other inflammatory joint diseases
- ankylosing spondylitis and spondyloarthritis
- systemic lupus erythematosus and other autoimmune diseases
- gout and other microcrystalline arthropathies
- osteoporosis
- chronic muscle pain and myositis

Symptoms that require a rheumatology consultation
