Physiotherapy For Obesity

Obesity is a condition characterized by the presence of excess adipose tissue in the body. In children over 2 years of age, obesity is defined by high values of BMI (body mass index) compared to the values of the WHO reference population (represented by children of the same age and sex from 8 countries in the world). For children under 2 years of age, in the diagnosis of obesity, the weight is estimated in relation to height.

The evaluation of an obese child is a complex process in which anamnestic data are corroborated with data of the physical examination, of the anthropometric measurements, and of the laboratory investigations.

The physical therapist, the psychotherapist, and the parent team up to support the child in adopting a healthy lifestyle, setting realistic goals and imposing a nutritional and sports discipline.

When does obesity treatment begin?

As soon as the pediatrician finds a disorder between the child's weight and height, he should be referred to a specialized team to help him lose weight and then maintain his optimal weight.
Centrokinetic supports parents with a counseling and treatment program for obese children.
After a complete evaluation of the musculoskeletal development and a postural evaluation and of the center of gravity, we establish the gymnastics program according to the child and we permanently monitor his evolution.

We treat childhood obesity with delicacy both mentally and physically and guide the child in the process of his transformation. Physical therapy sessions last 40 minutes during which we combine physical exercises with games specific to each age.
